Timothy Walter Burton was born on August 25, 1958, in Burbank, California — the hometown of Walt Disney Studios and the embodiment of everything American popular culture considered normal, which Burton found suffocating from early childhood. He was a solitary, introverted child who retreated into drawing, horror films, and the construction of private imaginative worlds. He was particularly influenced by Vincent Price.
