Biographie
James Warren Jones founded the Peoples Temple in Indianapolis in 1955, initially attracting followers with messages of racial equality and social justice. As his power grew, so did his paranoia and megalomania.
Jones moved his congregation to California in 1965, then to the jungles of Guyana in 1977, establishing "Jonestown." There, he created a prison-like compound where members worked long hours, were subjected to public humiliations, and were prevented from leaving.
On November 18, 1978, following a visit by Congressman Leo Ryan (who was investigating abuse claims), Jones ordered the murder of Ryan and his delegation at a nearby airstrip. That same day, Jones commanded the "revolutionary suicide" of his followers. Over 900 people died, including more than 300 children, by drinking cyanide-laced Flavor Aid. Jones died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The phrase "drinking the Kool-Aid" entered popular culture as a reference to this tragedy.
Profil Psychologique: ENTP
Jones demonstrates ENTP manipulation abilities in service of narcissistic cult leadership:
**Dominant Ne (Extraverted Intuition):** Jones constantly adapted his message and methods, moving from Christianity to socialism to apocalypticism as needed. He saw possibilities for manipulation everywhere and never committed to one consistent ideology.
**Auxiliary Ti (Introverted Thinking):** He built elaborate justifications for increasingly abusive practices, always maintaining internal logical consistency even as he demanded contradictory beliefs from followers.
**Tertiary Fe (Extraverted Feeling):** Jones was extraordinarily skilled at emotional manipulation. He could sense what people needed and provide it - until they were too committed to escape his growing abuse.
**Inferior Si (Introverted Sensing):** His inability to accept physical decline (he was drug-addicted and paranoid) and rejection of stable structures shows weak Si. He preferred to destroy everything rather than face reality.
