Keith Raniere

Keith Alan Raniere founded NXIVM (pronounced "Nexium") in 1998, marketing it as an executive success program based on "Rational Inquiry" - a system he claimed could solve any human problem. In reality, NXIVM was a destructive cult that psychologically manipulated thousands of members and sexually exploited women. Raniere styled himself as "Vanguard" - the world's smartest man, claiming one of the highest recorded IQ scores. He attracted a following that included wealthy heirs, Hollywood actresses, and business executives, who paid thousands of dollars for his "Executive Success Programs." The organization operated on a pyramid structure where members were required to recruit others and pay escalating fees. Those who rose in the ranks were subjected to increasing psychological control, including sleep deprivation, calorie restriction, and isolation from friends and family. The most disturbing element was DOS (Dominus Obsequious Sororium), a secret society within NXIVM where women were recruited as "slaves" to "masters." Members were required to provide "collateral" - compromising photos, confessions, or financial assets - to ensure their silence. Women in DOS were branded with Raniere's initials using a cauterizing pen during ceremonies they were told were about female empowerment. Raniere was arrested in Mexico in 2018 after fleeing the United States. He was convicted in 2019 on charges including sex trafficking, racketeering, and forced labor conspiracy. He was sentenced to 120 years in federal prison.

He offered a compelling narrative of meaning that trapped people in his worldview. **Tertiary Se (Extraverted Sensing):** His use of physical rituals (branding, calorie restriction, sleep deprivation) as control mechanisms and his own indulgent lifestyle show Se in service of domination. He understood the power of physical experience in reinforcing psychological control. **Inferior Ti (Introverted Thinking):** Despite claiming supreme rationality, his "Rational Inquiry" system was logically incoherent - designed not to find truth but to confuse and control. His inferior Ti manifested as pseudo-intellectual frameworks that sounded logical but served only manipulation.
