Biografia

Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria was a Colombian drug lord who co-founded the Medellín Cartel, controlling 80% of the global cocaine trade at its peak. At the height of his power, he was one of the richest men in the world, with an estimated net worth of $30 billion. Born into a poor family, Escobar began his criminal career as a teenager with petty street crimes. By the mid-1970s, he had established sophisticated cocaine smuggling routes to the United States. His innovation was "industrializing" the drug trade, bringing business efficiency to cocaine production and distribution. Escobar cultivated a Robin Hood image in Colombia, building housing for the poor and funding community projects. However, he was also responsible for thousands of deaths, including the bombing of Avianca Flight 203 (killing 107 people) and attacks on government buildings. After negotiating surrender to a luxury prison of his own design (La Catedral), Escobar escaped when authorities attempted to move him. He was killed in a rooftop shootout with Colombian security forces on December 2, 1993.
