Nicole Mary Kidman was born on June 20, 1967, in Honolulu, Hawaii, while her Australian parents — Antony Kidman, a biochemist and psychologist, and Janelle Ann, a nursing instructor and feminist activist — were in the United States on a study visa. She grew up primarily in Sydney and Melbourne, with a childhood defined by her mother's intellectually serious household and her own early commitment to performance.
