Biografía
Harold Frederick Shipman was a trusted family doctor in Hyde, Greater Manchester, who secretly murdered hundreds of his patients over a 23-year career. He is considered one of the most prolific serial killers in recorded history.
Shipman graduated from Leeds School of Medicine in 1970 and began his career at Pontefract General Infirmary. In 1975, he was caught forging prescriptions for pethidine for his own use and was briefly dismissed but allowed to continue practicing medicine after treatment.
He established a single-handed practice in Hyde in 1993, where he became beloved by many patients for his attentive care. Behind this facade, he was systematically killing elderly patients - predominantly women - by injecting them with fatal doses of diamorphine during home visits.
His downfall came when he forged the will of his final victim, Kathleen Grundy, a wealthy 81-year-old former mayor. Her daughter, a solicitor, immediately suspected forgery and alerted the police. Investigation revealed Shipman had been systematically altering patient records to create false medical histories justifying his victims' deaths.
The Shipman Inquiry, led by Dame Janet Smith, concluded he had killed at least 218 patients between 1975 and 1998, though the true number may be higher. Shipman was convicted of 15 murders in January 2000 and sentenced to life imprisonment. He hanged himself in his cell at Wakefield Prison in January 2004.
Perfil Psicológico: INTP
Shipman demonstrates INTP cognitive functions corrupted into a methodical killing machine:
**Dominant Ti (Introverted Thinking):** His meticulous approach to killing - selecting victims, calculating dosages, falsifying records, and constructing logical explanations for each death - shows powerful Ti. He treated murder as a problem to be solved with precision and analytical detachment.
**Auxiliary Ne (Extraverted Intuition):** His ability to anticipate how deaths would be perceived, construct plausible alternative explanations, and identify vulnerabilities in the medical oversight system show strong Ne. He saw patterns in the system that allowed him to exploit gaps in oversight for decades.
**Tertiary Si (Introverted Sensing):** His reliance on established routines - same method (diamorphine injection), same victim profile (elderly women), same cover story (natural causes) - shows Si in service of his crimes. He found a formula that worked and repeated it hundreds of times.
**Inferior Fe (Extraverted Feeling):** His ability to maintain a caring doctor persona while internally viewing patients as objects demonstrates classic INTP Fe struggles taken to pathological extremes. He could mimic empathy without feeling it, using his professional role as a mask.
